Texas Oncology 's new COO, Baylor University's testing site, UT Dallas research creates a sepsis sensor, and more.

Jason Shook is expanding his role at Texas Oncology. He was already the chief financial officer, but will now add chief operating officer to his responsibilities, where he will oversee administrative needs while managing financial management, planning, accounting, reporting, and more.


Dallas-based My Labs Direct is partnering with Baylor University to open its own on-site COVID-19 testing lab and research facility. It is one of the largest of its kind that is owned by a university without a medical school, and will allow the school to run 8,000 daily tests for faculty, staff, and students, with an opportunity to expand to the wider community.


Ambalika Tanak, a University of Texas at Dallas graduate student, is developing a sensor to help physicians make  identify sepsis more quickly. The sensor could help identify the life-threatening complication that can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death.


Methodist Richardson Medical Center will be a review site for The American College of Surgeon’s High Risk Gastrointestinal (GI) program. This national accreditation will look at surgical outcomes, safety, and quality of care for complex GI cases. Experts evaluated areas of multidisciplinary care, including surgery, anesthesiology, pathology, radiology, and nursing.


Dr. Salman Bhai has joined the the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine to lead the clinical and research work of its Neuromuscular Disease Center, expanding the capabilities of one of Dallas’ leading research centers on physiology and muscle disease. IEEM researches and cares for patients with muscle disease, and is located on the campus of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. The IEEM is a collaboration between Texas Health Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical Center.
