Baylor Scott & White names a new trustee, Texas Walmarts open primary care clinics, and more.

Warner Thomas has been named to the Baylor Scott & White Holdings Board of Trustees. Thomas is CEO of Ochsner Health, a nonprofit academic health system in Louisiana that includes 40 hospitals. He is a member of the Louisiana Hospital Association board of directors and serves on the Board of Trustees for the American Hospital Association.


Director of the Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Tammy R. Beckham will join The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (HSC) as vice president of health policy, where she can offer guidance on policy issues that impact the university. She will also be a professor of public health in the HSC school of public health.


Oak Street Health clinics have opened up in Walmarts across Texas. The value-based primary care centers are now open in three Walmart Supercenters in the DFW area and offer primary care and urgent care services, with a focus on adults in Medicare.


Dallas-based-Signify Health is collaborating with Parexel to give underrepresented populations access to clinical trials. The partnership will bring studies to patients in their homes, identify social determinants of health, and create connections to local resources. Understanding these populations will help companies that perform trials create a more diverse patient base.


Professor of biochemistry at UT Southwestern Benjamin Tu is a recipient of the 2021 2021 Edith and Peter O’Donnell Award in Science, presented by The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas. His research is in cellular function, and could lead to increased understanding of cancer and other diseases.
