Steward Health Care System is Converting Hospitals to COVID-19 Care

In an effort to keep emergency rooms and hospitals available for other care, Dallas-based Steward Health Care System is establishing hospitals dedicated to the treatment of those with COVOD-19. Part of the company’s “designated care models,” the system is creating remote testing facilities and drive-through testing centers.

The first hospital to be converted into a COVID-19 specific center is Carney Hospital in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The 159-bed facility will include negative pressure patient wards, increased patient isolation protocols, and specialty equipment needed to treat the virus. Steward has plans to expand the model as needed.

Steward Health operates 35 hospitals in the U.S. and Malta.
