Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, and one in every four deaths in the U.S. is caused by heart disease. Sadly, the number of people suffering from heart problems is getting worse. Worldwide, 18.6 million people died from cardiovascular disease in 2019, which represents a 17.1 percent increase over the past decade. There were 523.2 million cases of cardiovascular disease in 2019, 26.6 percent more than in 2010.

Compounding the issue, COVID-19 has forever impacted millions of people across the country, taking the lives of more than 400,000 people in the last year. Many of those most affected by the virus were those who suffered from co-morbidities like diabetes, high blood pressure, and other heart-related conditions.

One of the silver linings to the pandemic is that many of us are paying more attention to our health and lifestyle choices, and understanding the latest developments in heart health will help keep us healthy beyond the pandemic. A combination of early detection, top notch treatment, and the latest interventions can be the difference between life and death. It’s easy to say you’ll peruse these protective measures, but it’s not always easy to do.

D Magazine will host a panel of experts who will discuss the latest in heart health guidance, as well as developments in treatment, prevention, and surgery. We will discuss how COVID-19 affects the heart, what the lasting impact of the disease may be. Also, we will look at how technology is enabling early detection and prevention, all with local providers from some of DFW’s top health institutions.

Join D Magazine next Wednesday, February 3, to learn from a range of North Texas’ top cardiologists for an educational panel you won’t want to miss. Click the button below to register.
