Petition Launched to Aid Mesquite Woman Beaten in Playground Attack

|

On Feb. 17, Sondra Scarber and her partner, Hilary Causey, took their 4-year-old son, Jaxon, to the Seabourn Elementary School playground in Mesquite. After breaking up an altercation between Jaxon and a 10-year-old boy, Scarber was approached by the father of the 10-year-old, who thought she was a man. After the man declared that he — incorrectly — thought Scarber was picking on his son, the man beat Scarber unconscious, yelling homophobic slurs during the beating. There’s a $5,000 reward being offered for information in the case.

Someone has also launched a petition drive to aid Scarber:

Sondra Scarber tried to keep a four-year-old child from being bullied by older children and those childrens’ adult parent put Sondra in the hospital because of her sexual orientation. The Mesquite Police need to devote all necessary resources toward apprehending this alleged criminal and providing some measure of justice for his victims.

The petition has received more than 400 signatures today alone.
