Mother’s Day Is Nearly Here, So It’s Time To Plan Where To Dine

Mother’s Day celebrations last year were likely small, distanced, or postponed entirely. Now, with every jab of vaccine, we’re way past due for brunching with mom. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 9 (yes, that soon). So, grab takeout or book brunch to treat mom. And if you still need to get mom a gift, head this way to our Mother’s Day Gift Guide. At this Joule gem, brunch skews classic with crab Benedict and bread pudding French toast served with strawberries and coddled sweet cream. To drink? Día de las Madres brunch goes all weekend long. Get traditional Mexican dishes like chilaquiles or go for something Tex-Mex, like a breakfast brisket enchilada. Plus, moms get a free slice of chocolate-chipotle pepper Abuelita Cake. Dine in, patio, curbside pickup

Sloane’s Corner

BarNone

Moms who dine in with their kiddos get their meal half-priced. As for everyone who dines in, snag mimosas and bloody Marys for $2 and $3, respectively, all day long. Call to make a reservation.

Palmer’s Hot Chicken

Sometimes mom just wants to chill with a frosé; no big brunch, just bliss. There’s $5 frosé all day (by the pint, pitcher, quart, half-gallon or gallon to-go—for go-hards, dang) on Sunday for all the moms (yes, moms of fur babies, too). Dine in or takeout

Find the whole regular menu available, but moms get treated with a gratis glass of sparkling wine and a fresh-cut rose.

Jalisco Norte

For brunch, the Mother’s Day special is a platter of prime rib chilaquiles with beans and fried eggs. Otherwise, you might want to bring mom to dinner for the three-course prix fixe menu ($50, $35 optional cocktail pairing). Highlights include seared Texas redfish with green pozole sauce, birria short rib, and Mexican chocolate mousse cake. Make your reservation online.

Legacy Food Hall

For brunch with a side of entertainment, bring mom to this Drag Dive Brunch. Tickets are $45 and are sold by the table; they include a reserved seat, a mimosa or bloody Mary, and one brunch entree, like Southern chicken and biscuit from Roots Chicken Shak or shrimp and grits from Dock Local. Sit back, sip, and enjoy a glamorous show. Check in at 11 a.m., show’s at noon, ages 21 and up.

Ellie’s Restaurant & Lounge

There will be lots of a la carte options for adults and kids alike. Highlights include deviled eggs with smoked bacon jam, coffee chile-spiced wagyu tenderloin with duck fat potatoes, and sweet treats from Joy Macarons. Reserve through Resy.

Ounce

Here, find a Mother’s Day, three-course prix fixe meal for $40 per person. Start with Dungeness crab deviled eggs. Then, there’s plenty to choose from in each course, like avocado toast, French onion soup, prawns and grits, the Ounce burger, a class steak-potato-egg combo, and creme brulee for dessert. Dine in; $40 per person, make your reservation.

Knife

For Mother’s Day, Knife is bringing back its brunch menu staples such as pork belly Benedict, brioche French toast, steak and eggs, and John Tesar’s signature burgers and steaks. Moms get a complimentary mimosa with her meal; keep it classic with orange or spruce it up with grapefruit, pineapple, or cranberry juice. Reservations are a must.

Takeout for Mom

Uchi Sweets Box

For moms with a sweet tooth: six entremets-style petite cakes in lemon-raspberry cheesecake, Paris brest, chocolate-hazelnut opera cake, coconut lime, and more. Each box comes with a bottle of rosé ($95 total). Call to preorder; pick up May 8 & 9, 4 to 10 p.m. 

Rise and Thyme

Pack a picnic for mom, but let Rise and Thyme do the work for you. The AT&T Plaza restaurant has a basket that feeds up to four people with pastries, chocolate-covered strawberries, a charcuterie plate (meats, cheese, honeycomb, toast, whipped butter), chicken salad sandwiches, and a bottle of rosé with a mimosa kit ($120). Call to order by Wednesday, May 5.

Asian Mint

Celebrate at home with a Thai meal kit that includes edamame, Asian noodle salad, basil chicken and shrimp with jasmine rice, flourless chocolate cake for dessert, and a pineapple mimosa kit. $119, feeds four; order online.
