Last month I posted the big news about the rebirth of Victory Park. Over the next year, the 75-acre mixed-use development surrounding the American Airlines Center will debut new restaurants (including one weighing in at 24,000 square feet), bars, office space, a movie theater, and new retail.

So far, I’ve counted eight food and beverage tenants: Imoto, Burgundy Swine, a flagship Mesero, a restaurant by This & That Concepts (High Fives, So & So’s and The Standard Pour); a bar by Brooke Humphries (Barcadia, Beauty Bar, and Pints & Quarts); a 24,000-square-foot restaurant and entertainment concept in Victory Plaza by Humphries and Elias Pope’s 8020 Hospitality (HG Sply Co.); and three unique concepts by entrepreneur Tristan Simon’s new venture, Rebees, including a modern Texas saloon, an event space, and a co-working space with a café.

I have some projected opening dates for Imoto, the Pan-Asian restaurant with a sushi bar and extensive cocktail list, from Tracy Rathbun’s (Shinsei, Lovers Seafood Market) ownership group. Expect shared plates and tapas, an Asian interior, and a late-night lounge and DJ in the late spring of 2018.

Burgundy Swine has grand plans to become the most “unique wine program in the city.” The wine bar will open in spring 2018 next to Olivella’s. Nobody will say name names of the “group of local sommeliers covering wine regions from Europe to Texas, with an emphasis on the Burgundy region of France” puling together the program. I know a few, but they would cut out my Loire Valley white taste buds if I talk. The place sounds fun: wines are available for retail, there’s a dog friendly patio with lounge-style seating and fire pits. Expect the burgundy to flow in spring 2018.

What Should We Make of the Rangers’ Accidental Youth Movement?

It's been 26 years since a defending World Series champion leaned on this many young players out of the gate. In Texas' case, that wasn't the plan. But that doesn't make an influx of former first-round picks a bad thing, either.
