Stephan Pyles to Transform Old Samar Space Into San Salvaje, a Latin Restaurant

Will there still be a bocce court?

pyles-224x3001Just when we thought Samar, the haven for Indian/Mediterranean food, might really re-open again, Mike Hiller on EscapeHatch crushed those dreams with news that Stephan Pyles is re-doing the downtown restaurant space at 2100 Ross. No more Samar. We had hoped—with bated breaths—that Samar was only closing for renovations on July 1, but deep down, I knew Samar was gone for good. Goodbye, awesome tandoori butter chicken-within-walking-distance.

My stomach is in mourning right now.

Still, Pyles is a smart man. Right now, he’s planning to move his eponymous restaurant at 1807 Ross to KPMG Plaza at Hall Arts. And now it looks like he’s taking the opportunity to try something new. San Salvaje, a modern Latin concept, will take over 2100 Ross. It’ll serve “tacos, tamales, arepas, and empanadas, ceviches, tiraditos, plus elements borrowed from Cuba and Peru,” says Hiller.

A PR rep of the building also says the new layout is “going to have a bigger patio, more indoor seating, and the bar is going to be revamped.”

Though we’ve heard rumors about a bocce court at the restaurant, it’s unknown at this time whether or not it will still happen. Let’s cross our fingers and hope so.
